Despite regular cleaning, it is often seen that over a period of time a layer of dirt and grime develops on the floors. Old marble develops chips and cracks, the color of the grouting changes, scratches start developing on the floor and the marble loses its original shine. Try following the tips mentioned below to keep the marble floors sparkling for a longer time.
· Clean surfaces with mild or PH neutral cleaners. While wet mopping floors, do remember to change the water frequently. Avoid excess use of water on a marble tile surface. Dry the floor with a soft cloth after mopping.
- · Thoroughly dry and rinse the surface with clear and clean water after washing with any chemical.
- · Blot out spills immediately.
- · Protect the countertops with coasters, trivets or placemats and floor surfaces with non-slip mats. Due to abrasive nature sand, grit and dirt do most of the damage to stone surfaces. Mats placed at the entry doors help minimize the dust, sand, and dirt entering the house.
- · Avoid using lemon juice, vinegar or other cleaners containing acids on marble surfaces.
- · Cover the sharp edges of the furniture so that they do not scratch the marble surface.
- · Do not use ladders or vacuum cleaners that are worn out. The plastic or metal attachments or the wheels may scratch the surface.
